Lockable Gas Spring for Industrial & Medical Applications — Precision Locking, Custom Force & Stroke Solutions

By combining hydropneumatic force with an integrated locking mechanism, Lockable Gas Spring technology enables the rod to be securely gripped at any point during its entire stroke. Founded in 2002, Xingtai Juxiang has more than 20 years of expertise creating and manufacturing gas springs for the furniture, automotive, industrial, and medical industries. The plant employs around 100 people, including 20 specialized technical and managerial staff. With full-process quality control, it produces extension forces ranging from 50N to 2,600N, strokes ranging from 10mm to 800mm, and operating temperatures ranging from -30°C to +80°C.

What Makes a Lockable Gas Spring Different?

A standard Lockable Gas Spring applies continuous force without holding position. A lockable version adds an internal valve mechanism controlled by an actuation pin. When the pin is released, the valve closes and the rod locks rigidly in place — no external brackets or mechanical stops needed.

The ability to offer both solid, steady placement and smooth movement inside a single small component is a genuine difficulty for equipment designers, which this design resolves. The end product serves as both a structural support and a dampening element.

Juxiang's lockable units offer two distinct locking modes. Elastic locking (K<1.2) uses a gas buffer for a slight spring feel — well suited for seating and ergonomic applications. Rigid locking (K<1.6) uses an oil column that is nearly incompressible, delivering absolute stability under heavy static load.

Key Product Features

Extended Service Life & Accurate Sealing

During repeated cycles, the sealing construction is designed to reduce pressure attenuation. This maintains supporting force consistent throughout a long service life, which counts most in medical and industrial applications where units cannot be serviced regularly.

Combined Damping

Abrupt rod extension or retraction is prevented by the integrated damping mechanism. Smooth and controlled movement lowers impact pressures on linked structures and enhances operator safety.

Reliable and Sensitive Locking

A pin stroke of no more than 3.5 mm and an actuation force of no more than 0.25 times F1 are required for the release mechanism. This indicates that while locking is sturdy enough to withstand sliding under rated force, unlocking is simple and straightforward.

Adaptable Control Choices

Pull wire control and manual button release are your options. Whether you are creating industrial gear, office furniture, or medical equipment, this versatility makes integration simple.

Packaging

Material & Surface Options

Standard construction uses carbon steel with a chrome-plated piston rod, providing a balance of strength and surface durability. For environments with exposure to moisture, chemicals, or salt, 304 or 316 stainless steel options are available.

The chrome-plated rod reduces friction and extends seal life. In corrosive environments, the stainless steel option is the more reliable long-term choice.

End Fitting & Connector Choices

Available fittings: universal ball joint, U-fork, double ear, single ear. Custom connectors are supported. OEM and ODM service can produce connectors matching your non-standard mounting geometry.

Certificate

Application Scenarios

Medical Equipment

Exam tables, surgical positioning equipment, and hospital beds all require stepless angle adjustment that can withstand patient weight without the use of foot pedals or manual locks.

Office and Ergonomic Furniture

For ease of use, sit-stand desks, monitor arms, and chairs require stiff locking with smooth height/angle adjustment that holds strong under weight.

Industrial and Engineering Equipment

Control consoles, heavy-duty work platforms, and self-service equipment all require stability under constant demand. Rigid locking reduces vibration and micro-movement that can lead to weariness or measurement mistakes.

Cars & Transportation

Compact lockable support with reliable fatigue resistance is required for flip covers, access panels, and seat adjustment in cars, commercial vehicles, and high-end trains.

FAQ

Q1: What is elastic locking vs rigid locking?

A: Elastic locking (K<1.2) has mild spring buffer for seating. Rigid locking (K<1.6) uses oil for fixed positioning under heavy static load.

Q2: Can I customize force and stroke?

A: Yes, force, stroke, tube and rod sizes can all be adjusted to your design requirements.

Q3: What release control types are available?

A: Manual button and pull wire control are both offered. Custom actuation can be discussed.

Q4: Is rod-down mounting required?

A: Rod-down mounting is recommended to lubricate internal seals. Contact our team if other orientation is needed.

Q5: Which material for corrosive environments?

A: Choose 304 or 316 stainless steel; standard chrome carbon steel suits dry indoor use. MOQ is 50 PCS for standard and custom orders.
